The Archives of The Marsden Page are built not only through my personal efforts to collect Marsden references but through the efforts of many Marsden researchers worldwide who contribute information to build this unparalleled collection of Marsden information. All Marsden researchers are encouraged to contribute miscellaneous references which they come across during their research but there is also a need to organise some information gathering into more formal projects. This page explains what YOU can do to help.

Miscellaneous Submissions

Let's get one thing clear - I COLLECT EVERYTHING! I am pleased to receive any references to Marsdens whatever, wherever, whenever.

Some ideas for sources for you to bear in mind and a few notes to help me to make sense of what you submit:

There will inevitably be some duplication but this has not yet become a problem. Do not, however, take on a large task (such as extracting all Marsden entries from a Parish Register) without checking with me whether it has already been done.

UK Civil Registration Indexes

At the end of 1994 I sought volunteers to transcribe the indexes to UK births from 1837 onwards. This was later extended to cover marriages for the same period. Some sterling work has been done resulting in publication on fiche of births 1837-59 with 1860-69 ready to publish and work in progress on the remaining periods. Marriages have proceeded more rapidly (there are fewer of them!) and 1837-59 and 1880-99 have been published. No work has, however, been done on deaths.

More volunteers are needed. This need not mean taking on a large task. Even if you take on one year's entries, this will not involve you in much more than 4 -8 hours work and moe us one year nearer to completion. If you would like to contribute to this project please mail me and I will allocate you a period to transcribe.

UK Civil Probate Index

Judith Farington has been working steadily on abstracting the Marsden entries from the civil probate indexes. She has completed 1858-1879 and is currently working on 1890+. There is scope for others to get involved. One year's entries may take a couple of hours to transcribe onto the forms which I will supply. Again, the smallest contribution will be welcomed.

UK Birth, Marriage & Death Certificates

One of the difficulties faced by family history researchers is the very limited information which is included in the indexes to Births, Marriages and Deaths in England & Wales which has been recorded by the General Registration Office from 1 July 1837 onwards. One can be faced with several possible events involving the correct name and registration district and it is quite possible to buy several certificates before getting the one you really want. At £6.50 each, this can result in a lot of wasted money. I have therefore established a project to collect the information from certificates which Marsden researchers have already purchased and to produce more detailed indexes from the information on the certificates. New Projects

If you have an idea for a good project to gather Marsden information from a particular source and would be prepared to put some work into making it happen then please contact me and I will give you all the support I can.
